Bill Z. Tan: Overcoming Communication Barriers


As Founder and CEO of Transcendent International (d/b/a LanguageMate), Bill Z. Tan leads a talented team to address communication challenges in the fields of healthcare, social services, and education. The company’s products include clinical information systems, telehealth outreach platforms, K-12 educational programs, and more.

Bill is the Principal Investigator on multiple Small Business Innovation Research grants awarded by the US National Institutes of Health. NIH support has enabled the company to pursue a sweeping vision—the creation of an array of cross-cultural communication tools that are technologically advanced, scientifically validated, and economically viable.

Bill received a bachelor's degree from the Stern School of Business at New York University, where he was elected President of the Entrepreneurs Club. He holds an appointment as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine at New York University School of Medicine. Bill was named a Crain’s 40 Under 40 Rising Star in 2010, and was named by Mayor Michael Bloomberg as a New York City Venture Fellow in 2012.
