Intelligent Automation, Inc.
Under the support of a Phase II SBIR program, funded by Department of Transportation (DOT), Intelligent Automation, Inc. (IAI) has developed an innovative vehicle specific Detection, Control and Warning System (DCWS). DCWS helps drivers, who are approaching the intersection while presented with a yellow indication, make an appropriate "stop" or "proceed" decision, thus avoiding potential traffic accidents. The system has been fully tested and demonstrated at FHWA's TFHRC research center. Part of the research results has been published, one of the 4 related papers being included in Transportation Research Record. This SBIR program is directly tied with the DOT high-profile Connected Vehicle (CV) program as one implementation of IAI’s DCWS uses Dedicated Short-range Radio Communications (DSRC) between onboard equipment and road side equipment, which is the intimate part of the CV infrastructure to mitigate severe collisions at high-speed signalized intersections. Thus, the DCWS has broader business and societal impacts on future transportation. As a result of success in this SBIR program, IAI has enjoyed the business growth in several ways, such as winning more DOT SBIR contracts and joining multiple DOT IDIQ service contracts. This SBIR program has positioned IAI as a leading small business in transportation research.
